Welcome to Sumo Ramen, an inviting haven nestled in the heart of El Poblado, Medellín. This vibrant eatery aims to bring an authentic taste of Japan to Colombia, and it does so with remarkable precision. Located at Cra. 36 #8A-131, Sumo Ramen has quickly established itself as a must-visit destination for both ramen aficionados and casual diners alike.
Step inside, and you are greeted by a warm, welcoming atmosphere that enhances the dining experience. The friendly and efficient service sets a positive tone from the onset, allowing you to focus on what truly matters—the food. The menu features a tantalizing selection of ramen bowls, each crafted with flavorful broths and expertly cooked noodles that embody the essence of traditional Japanese cuisine.
One standout dish that has garnered rave reviews is the spicy miso ramen. Diners like Ryo K, a Japanese customer, proudly declare it the best they've tasted in South America, praising its reasonable pricing—a rarity for a high-quality ramen experience. The tonkatsu ramen and the creative combinations, such as the addition of eggplant, reflect Sumo Ramen's commitment to innovation while respecting culinary traditions.
For those looking for a complete meal, the gyoza, described by Michele C as “hot and delicious,” pair perfectly with the ramen. The soy-infused dumplings add a delightful contrast to the rich, hearty broth. Portions are generous, pleasing those who appreciate a hearty meal without breaking the bank, as noted by Katherine Garnica.
While Sumo Ramen might not boast a fully authentic Japanese ramen experience, as highlighted by Steve M, it successfully captures the comforting, home-cooked flavors that resonate well with diners. The restaurant focuses on quality ingredients, featuring fresh meats and delectable toppings that elevate every bowl.

“ I am Japanese and the ramen here is very good. I have been to several reputable ramen restaurants in South America, but the spicy miso ramen here is the best and more reasonably priced. I ordered a large bowl of ramen, gyoza, and mineral water, and the bill was about 1,700 Japanese yen. In Japan, this would seem expensive, but it is very reasonable. I recommend this place. ”
“ Sumo Ramen is definitely a top contender when it comes to ramen joints! The atmosphere is welcoming, and the service is friendly and efficient. Now, onto the main event – the ramen bowls. They serve up some seriously delicious options! The broth is flavorful and satisfying, and the noodles have a great texture. The variety of toppings adds a nice touch to each bowl. While I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here, I believe there's always room for improvement. Perhaps a tad more consistency in the broth's seasoning and temperature would elevate the dining experience even further. Overall, Sumo Ramen is a solid choice for anyone craving a hearty bowl of ramen. With a few tweaks, they could easily reach five-star status! ”
“ I resisted this place several times but today I was too hungry waiting for Bao Bei and gave it a try. Surprisingly it was not bad. Of course, it’s not the authentic ramen experience like the egg and Cha Siu etc. BUT, it actually tasted good, somewhat like what I would cook at home. The meat are not the ramen cut but they are good quality (I got the Tan Mixto with pork and chicken), and I like it that they threw a lot of cabbage in it like I would do when making instant ramen noodles at home. Service was friendly and fast. The prices are really reasonable. It’s cash only. ”
“ We ordered onigiri and Goya’s as appetizers, Miso ramen with eggplant (berenjena) and tonkatsu ramen. both appetizers came out hot and delicious. I would order the goyzas again because of their soy infused with ginger and maybe sweet vinegar. YUM. Miso ramen was delicious! I loved the eggplant addition. Good flavor, hot and with all the traditional ingredients you’d expect in miso ramen. Especially loved the abundance of green onions. My hubs reported the tonkatsu was flavorless. He ate Tonkatsu everyday in Tokyo as a staple. So he is still on the hunt for quality tonkatsu ramen. He spiced it up by asking for salt pepper and used the gyozas sauce to add a ginger zing. It worked enough for him to satisfy his hunger. I would come back for the gyozas and miso. Great ambiance and customer service too. ”
“ This is a great spot for enjoying noodles and dumplings. It’s my go-to place when I’m craving Asian-style noodles. Just note, they only accept cash or bank transfers via QR code. ”
